Expert Training To Meet Shortage Of Aboriginal Safety Technicians

The need for trained First Nations Safety Technicians in Alberta, B.C. and Saskatchewan is increasing. Currently there are ongoing developments in Resource projects (for instance: Mines, Drilling, Pipelines, Oil sands, and oil field construction sites including the building of leases, roads, and pipeline right of ways) which pass through First Nations’ lands and traditional territories.

Four Week Professional Training Program

With qualified instructors, CSI will provide concentrated, interactive training including employment related life skills, cross cultural awareness and problem solving skills for success in the Resource industry. This training will be based on the realities of life in the remote worksites, including the demands, expectations, work and communication culture.

Course Activities Prepare Trainees To Be Confident And Competent

Learning will include:

  • Leadership Skills so trainees can conduct themselves technically and personally in the industry with success. This is a key to preparing trainees for long term employment by understanding how to be a great team member, how to listen to build trust, how to get your point across clearly and confidently, how to deal with change, how to handle unsafe conditions in the workplace, how to influence team members to think “Safety First”.
  • Technical Skills including: Emergency Response, Legislative Awareness – OH & S Manuals, Hazard Assessments, Incident Management, Safety Meetings-organization, Short Service Employee Monitoring. There will be Field trips to actual work sites, such as, drilling rigs, service rigs, construction sites, pipelines, plants and lease construction, etc.
  • Relevant tickets and on-line courses. Tickets will be determined on an individual basis for each trainee. Tickets to include H2S Alive, First Aid, Confined Space, Fall Protection and others.
